JPEG Convert is an application designed to convert images to and from JPEG format using the Independent JPEG Group's JPEG software. This version of JPEG Convert uses version 4a of the Independent JPEG Group's software.
This archive file contains a PowerPC-only version of the application. Versions compiled for use on 68000 machines for 68020 and 68881 processors are available elsewhere.
NOTE: JPEG conversion is fairly memory intensive (especially with large images). While the Independent JPEG Group's software handles memory fairly well, raising the application's memory (with Get Info from the finder) is usually appropriate.
The Macintosh portion of this software is copyright James H. Brunner. The JPEG Conversion code is copyright Tom Lane and the Independent JPEG Group. Aaron Giles did the port to PowerPC. See source code for restrictions on use.
The source code for BOTH the Macintosh interface code AND the JPEG conversion code is available at archive sites. The source for the Macintosh interface is available at Mac archive sites, although the changes needed for the PowerPC are not yet publicly available. The compilation notes (included with the source) contain information on how to obtain the Independent JPEG Group's software.
